MANILA, Philippines—Capping a season-long dominance, Infinit-O dethroned Expert Global Solutions and captured the 2014 BPO Classics basketball tournament Competitive Division crown last week.
Undefeated in all seven matches in the elimination round, there was simply no slowing down Infnit-O en route to a 90-82 championship-clinching win over EGS at the Makati Coliseum.
Infinit-O only utilized seven players against EGS, but its firepower remained unmatched as league scoring leaders Norman Nunez and Cyrus Malagueno did most of the damage.
Malagueno, who normed 25.8 points this season, and Nunez, who averaged 19.3, combined for Infinit-O’s 50 points. Sherwin Castro and Ceris Neil Bunye, meanwhile, teamed up for 27 points.
John Valiente Magtalas nailed six triples for 21 points kick start EGS’s bid, but the erstwhile champions just couldn’t keep up with the rampaging Infinit-O in the second half.
It ended EGS’s reign in the tournament composed of BPO companies in Metro Manila organized by One Unite Sports after dominating the Elite Division and Competitive Division last year.
This year, the 16-team meet was divided into three: the Competitive, Intermediate, and Recreational divisions.
Newcomer EXL Service Philippines, meanwhile, claimed the Intermediate Division championship with a 71-62 win over Xerox also at the Makati Coliseum.
Season-long leader Patrick Belen, who regularly churned out huge offensive games for his team, stepped up for EXL anew with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
Shell Business Service Centre – Manila, one of the original participants in the BPO classics, on the other hand, went on to win the Recreational Division title after turning back AMMEX I-Support, 67-56.
