MANILA, Philippines – Gerry’s Grill completed an overriding sweep of the 2015 Women’s Next5Hoops competitive bracket by trouncing A-Team, 77-60, in the finals to capture the tourney championship on Sunday, February 7 at Asia Pacific College’s gymnasium in Makati City.
Chovi Borja steered Gerry’s Grill to the Promised Land by pulling off a double-double performance of 16 markers and 15 boards to come along with three dimes, four steals and one block.
Borja had a helping hand from Aileen Balmatero, who finished with 18 points, 3 rebounds, two assists and five steals.
France Mae Cabinbin likewise produced good numbers for Gerry’s Grill, registering 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals.
Cabinbin, who averaged 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the regular season, copped the Best Player of the Conference award.
Gerry’s Grill entered the playoffs with an immaculate 5-0 record and then eliminated Mixers to punch a ticket to the championship round.
On the other hand, A-Team faltered in the finals despite the outstanding efforts from Charmaine Natural, who amassed 18 markers and 14 boards.
Diane Kristine Cas supported Natural with 16 points, while Patricia Averion and Hollie Dabon combined 11 to give A-Team a bridesmaid placing in the competition.
