MANILA, Philippines – As the old basketball adage goes, “It is not how you started it, but it is how you finish it.”
Phase One-GEC had entered the playoffs as the top-seeded squad and the favorite to win it all the way, but Major Homes Properties stopped the rolling of the red carpet by defeating No.1-ranked team in the 2016 Next5Hoops South tourney finals to bring home the championship on Saturday, April 30 at the EJG Lucky Gym in Parañaque City.
Major Homes’ 97-89 conquest of Phase One-GEC was powered by the double-double performances of Mark Tarrobal and Art Andres, who produced monstrous numbers for the winning brigade.
Tarrobal amassed 31 markers to come along with 13 boards, 5 dimes and two steals, while Andres hauled 21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, one steal and one block.
Major Homes’ cruise to the Promised Land received a helping hand from Carlito Quiambao, who flirted with his own double-double output by finishing with 18 points, 9 rebounds, two assists and one steal.
On the other hand, GEC heavily relied on Ivan Yaco, who scorched the basket with 21 markers, 6 boards and two dimes and converted 4 of his 10 attempts from downtown.
