MANILA, Philippines – UnitedHealth Group had to dig deep for its second-straight victory in the intermediate division of the 2016 BPO Classics season as the league-leading squad hardly escaped with a 69-65 victory against Center Function on Saturday, May 7 at the EJG Lucky Gym in Parañaque City.
Jay Valdes manned United Health Group’s frontline unit and scorched the basket with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and one steal, while Rey David Santos contributed 16 markers, two boards, 3 dimes and one steal.
Even though he was coming off the bench, back-up wingman Flynn Sabillo flaunted 11 points to go along with 3 rebounds and 4 steals.
Despite United Health Group’s conquest, Center Functions did not go down without a fight as Ren Manzon pulled off a monstrous all-around performance by drilling a game-high 30 markers to come along with 5 boards, 4 dimes, 3 steals and one block.
Manzon received a helping hand from Jerick Estallo and Patrick Jason Bediasay, who finished with 12 and 10 points respectively.
With the razor-thin win over Center Function, United Health is now riding high on a two-match winning streak.
On the other hand, Center Functions loses its season-opening fixture and blemishes its win-loss slate early in the competition.
