Warfit Basketball and 3W Builders got off to a blazing start in the 2016 Next5Hoops Metro Manila South Leg campaign after torching their opponents last Sunday at EJG Lucky Gym in Parañaque.
In a pair of Pool A match-ups to start another conference, Warfit Basketball handed Aling Lucy’s Panciteria a 19-point beating, 79-60, while 3W Builders trumped Baller Hood, 93-75.
Jeb Carl Po and Josh Tropa conspired for 52 points to pace Warfit Basketball in the opening victory while Reynald Cui and Po combined for 21 of the team’s 53 rebounds, which proved to be the difference maker.
Warfit Basketball used its size advantage to dominate Aling Lucy’s downlow for a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint while torching them with 11 triples, breaking the game wide open just before halftime.
It had been a close opening quarter before Warfit Basketball’s rampage pushed Aling Lucy’s to trail by as big as 27, 63-36, early in the fourth quarter after a putback by Po.
Only Franklin Mancio finished in double digits for Aling Lucy’s with 12 points off the bench while starters Reynaldo Cudia and Lester Dickens had nine points apiece.
3W Builders also got a huge boost from a 67-45 rebounding edge to give Baller Hood an 18-point whooping to kick start its campaign in Next5Hoops Metro Manila South Leg.
Jepoy Vito Cruz led 3W Builders’ third quarter pull away, which turned a close four-point game to a 14-point lead by the period’s end, and finished with 23 points including six triples.
Exequiel Panares had 17 markers and 10 rebounds while Jap Bautista added 10 points, five rebounds and five dimes for 3W Builders.
Baller Hood trailed from the get go but only by single digits in the first two quarters until Vito Cruz and 3W Builders stretched the lead to as big as 25, 88-63, with over five minutes to play.
April Manuel scored 18 points and dished out five assists for Baller Hood in the losing cause while JC Abarrientos and Reychan Bernaldez added 10 points each.
