WarFit and 3W Builders go up 2-0; Grease Monkey enters win column

WarFit Basketball and 3W Builders each gained their second win in the 2016 Next5Hoops Metro Manila South Leg tournament last Sunday at the EJG Lucky Gym in Parañaque.

WarFit Basketball got win number two over Baller Hood with a score of 86-68, while the 3W Builders notched their win over SH Flight, 82-67.

Josh Tropa, was again a main contributor for Warfit by tallying 22 points on 9-for-13 field goals, including three triples. Tropa also dished out five assists in the victory.

WarFit started out strong against Baller Hood, going 14-0 in just the first six minutes of the game. They ended the first period with a 29-10 edge and never looked back. Aside from Tropa, WarFit had key productions from Karlo Torres who had 12 points and 15 boards, and Mark Espero also getting a double-double with 11 and 11.

Dred Gatchailan put up 17 points and six boards for Baller Hood who dropped their second consecutive game. Earl Sian and Reychan Bernaldez combined for 29 points in the losing effort.

The 3W Builders also stay perfect in the Next5Hoops Metro Manila South Leg by defeating the SH Flight, thanks to 18 points from Jepoy Vito Cruz. Eight other players from 3W scored at least six points as their scoring was equally distributed.

For SH Flight, Rob Angeles was the high-point man with 22 points while Karl Soriano added 16 in the loss.

3W Builders used a dominating 32-6 second quarter to crush SH Flight. SH Flight failed to score bucket in the period up until five minutes left in the half.

3W Builders was a force inside as they had a 56-36 rebounding edge over their opponent. They also had 44 points inside the paint plus 10 second chance points from their offensive rebounding.

Grease Monkey meanwhile kicked off their campaign by edging out Street Chef, 74-67. Karlo Sumabat and Niku Valles combined for 30 points off the bench to lead their team past Street Chef.

The score was tied at 63 apiece with roughly two minutes left in the game as the two teams battled it out. A Sumabat three-pointer gave the Grease Monkey the lead and then he followed it up with a steal and another jumper to make 70-64 with less than a minute to go. Clutch free throws by the Grease Monkey sealed the victory.
