DECA 8990 Gets Third Win, South Hills Royals and AVISO Knock Off Foes 

The Next5Hoops Metro Manila South Leg Pool 2 also resumed action last Sunday, August 7, at the EJG Lucky Gym with Deca 8990 earning their third straight victory.

Deca 8990 was triumphant in a close encounter with the Tsek Repablik, edging them, 96-92. Daniel Flores put out a monster effort with an eye-opening performance of 43 points.

Flores also hit the go-ahead three-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining to give his team a 94-92 lead. Tsek Repablik’s Jack Duane Azcueta tried to counter with his own triple but, failed to hit his target.  Mark Orias provided the finishing touches when he hit two clutch free throws to seal the victory. Tsek Repablik tried to counter Flores with the scoring output of June Crespo’s 34 points but they were not enough.

The South Hills Royals claimed their second victory of the tournament by earning an 84-79 victory over E.T. Homes. The Royals had a ton of contribution from a number of its players with Jhay Flores leading the way with 17 points and six rebounds. Dion Riverente added 16, Melo Lahora with 14, Reynaldo Malaga had 13, and JP Redelick poured in 12.

The Royals overcame a 10-of-22 shooting from the foul line by being more efficient from the field where they hit 43 percent of their shots. They also worked on the boards, gaining a 55-47 rebounding edge. Malaga was a giant under the rim with 14 rebounds while Riverente hauled down 11.

Roger Domingo of E.T. Homes netted 16 points and five rebounds in the loss.

Aviso barges into the win column by defeating the still winless Don Bosco Makati 2009, 76-68. Jeff Quiambao had a solid all-around performance of 15 points, four rebounds, six assists, and added four steals in the victory.

Aviso enjoyed a 55-50 lead heading into the final frame and they never relinquished that lead. The margin grew to as high as 15 points with five minutes remaining off a two-pointer by Marion Bautista.

Don Bosco rallied back and was even able to cut the lead to just four points with 24 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, they missed their two attempts from deep as Aviso held on to the victory thanks to some clutch free throws.
