Enderun Colleges and Nougat Crush Opponents

It was a pair of blowout games in the Next5Hoops Elite Division last Thursday, August 18, at the DOE-PNOC Gym in Taguig as both Enderun Colleges and Nougat took care of their foes easily.

In the day’s first game, Enderun defeated G-Squad 92-66. Josh Grilli earned top marks with his performance of 23 points and seven rebounds.

Enderun started the game red-hot after scoring 27 points in the opening quarter. They followed it up with a 29-11 edge in the second and G-Squad wasn’t able to recover.

Grilli also got help from Mike Dela Cruz and Errol Villar who scored 11 apiece for the winning team. Enderun’s dominant performance was highlighted by their work on the boards. They enjoyed a 56-33 rebounding advantage which led them to more scoring opportunities. Enderun was 40-of-85 from the field for 47 percent while their opponent only shot 22-of-66 for a dismal 33 percent.

Despite G-Squad’s poor shooting, Anthony Althie did have 15 points and missed only two shots. Mark Trinidad also added 15 points off the bench.

In the second game last Thursday, Nougat handed a lowly IBC squad an eye-opening 52-point loss. The final score was 123-71 in favor of Nougat. They scored 35 points in the first ten minutes and didn’t take their foot off the gas pedal. They kept on shooting and the shots just kept on falling.

Rama Morales nearly had a triple-double with 18 points, seven rebounds, and eight dimes. Fellow starter Alvin Vitug had a solid outing of 19 points and eight boards. Ton Lustestica meanwhile chipped in 20 points off the bench.

Nougat had the edge on IBC on nearly all statistical categories but their shooting from beyond the arc was the main story of the game.

Nougat scorched the net with 22 three-pointers and shot 52 percent from distance. For comparison, IBC had 29 total made field goals. Lustestica was the team’s main gunner with six made shots from rainbow country.

Enderun and Nougat each had a strong showing this week in the Next5Hoops Elite Division.
