Artesyn dealt Emerson Financial Services its first loss even as Emerson Network Power finally got victory no. 1 last Sunday as the competition in the 2016 Next5Hoops Corporate Recreational Division heats up.
Artesyn banked on a game-clinching 11-4 run to frustrate Emerson Finance, 57-54, and pull even at second place with a 3-1 record in the tournament organized by One Unite Sports.
Though trailing for most of the game, Artesyn never let Emerson Finance pull away to a double digit lead and then found an opening in the fourth period to take over.
It turned a six-point deficit, 44-50—the largest lead in the fourth—with over seven minutes left to a three-point victory thanks largely to the efforts of Roberto Carlos.
Carlos finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds for Artesyn, which took advantage of Emerson’s Finance erratic play turning 23 turnovers into 20 points.
Martin Panteleon and Jonathan Valencia combined for 25 points for Emerson Finance, which was beaten off the rebound (47-39) and points off turnovers (20-3).
Emerson Power barged into the victory column and left Nexus as the lone winless team in the league with a 64-55 victory.
Emerson Power pushed the lead to 17 with 6:14 to play, building enough cushion to survive a last ditch rally from Nexus in the final two minutes.
Nexus pulled within six, 55-61, on a triple by John Bul-anon, who finished with a team-best 21 points, but it was just too little too late as they dropped to 0-4.
Royking Mailom threw his weight around en route to a 26-point, 20-rebound performance for Emerson Power, which has avoided the bottom with a 1-3 card.
SCMC-Ara, meanwhile, plucked their second victory against as many losses after routing Solar Entertainment, 53-37.
Christopher Frias and Marvin Alcala scored just five point less than the entire Solar team combined with 18 and 14 points, respectively, for SCMC-Ara.
Alcala also added 14 boards while Johan Montes contributed 18 rebounds to dominate their foes off the glass.
Solar just couldn’t get a handle on SCMS-Ara’s scorers while failing to find the mark on the offensive end as it absorbed its third win and tied Emerson Power as second to the last.
Mario Gayagaya continued to be the most consistent guy for Solar as he finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
