Last Sunday, Exile Aquinas defeated Don Bosco Makati 2007 with a score of 77-65, in the 2nd Leg Qualifier of the Next5Hoops Metro Manila’s Recreational Division.
It was the trio of Paolo Avecilla, Carl Laconico, and Van Costales who provided the firepower for Exile Aquinas. They combined for 46 points, 22 rebounds, and had eight three-pointers between them. Exile mostly did their damage in the paint. They outrebounded Don Bosco and scored 48 points in the shaded area.
For Don Bosco, it was the efforts of Pierre Accuin who led his team with a double-double outing of 12 points and 13 boards. Don Bosco tried to keep in step with exile but just didn’t have enough scoring. Geo Dela Roca and Justin Sulit each had 10 points but both shot poorly from the field.
The SMA-P Alumni Badgers were also victorious last Sunday as they disposed Ballers United, 77-66. The Badgers got off to a fast start, scoring 20 points in the opening period while limiting the Ballers to just nine.
Aaron Villamarin put up 19 points, including five triples in the Badgers win. Louie Tuason had 11 points but it was his work on the glass that made him a force to be reckoned with. Tuason gobbled up 16 rebounds (eight from the offensive end).
Both teams didn’t shoot particularly well (Badgers – 38 percent, Ballers – 34 percent), but it was in the free throw line that hurt the Ballers. They missed more than half of their attempts from the charity stripe, going 15-of-32.
Four of the five Ballers starters scored in double figures with Shaquile Chinchontic leading the way with 16 points, while also hauling down seven boards in the loss.
