Don Bosco Makati 2007 came away with a tight win while Hokage Ballers, KPATS South and Yokohama cruised to huge victories in the Next5Hoops Metro Manila Recreational Division last Sunday.
Don Bosco Makati 2007 still held on to beat G&C Anmars, 77-75, despite losing its double-digit lead and trailing by seven points with over 7 minutes left to play.
From a 59-66 deficit, Don Bosco Makati took back the momentum for the 73-68 lead with 2:23 left en route to its first victory so far in the tournament.
Geo Dela Roca led with 19 points and five rebounds, Pierre Acuin added 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Martin Mendoza had 17 points, five boards and four assists for Don Bosco Makati.
Mark Guteza paced Anmar’s comeback from 13 points down with 22 points while three others finished in double digits.
Yokohama, meanwhile, leaned on Pong Olayres’ 31 point, nine-rebound explosion in the 109-93 rout of Exile Aquinas.
Olayres got solid back up from JR Mendoza, who had 20 markers, Ryan Gogorza with 18 points and Dan Geraldo who had 14 points and 16 boards.
Yokohama led by as much as 30 points, 52-22, as early as the second quarter as Aquinas hardly threatened from the get go.
The closest Aquinas got was 84-75 with 7:29 play but that was quickly doused as Yokohoma pushed the lead back to 17 three minutes after.
Paolo Avecilla and Carlo Laconico were the only bright spots for Aquinas as they combined for 45 points.
KPATS South took the same route as Yokohoma after clobbering Baller United, 92-79.
It was a total domination inside the paint by KPATS South as it more than doubled Baller United’s input downlow, 64-30.
Ingrin Sawal topscored with 17 points and added 10 rebounds, where KPATS South got its biggest edge over Baller United, 47-29.
Jez Arnella, Arvee Gante and Ruvic Delos Reyes gave life to Baller United’s offense with 20, 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Hokage Ballers also turned back KPATS North, 85-76, largely behind the efforts of Joe Burata.
Burata nailed five triples to finish with 32 points as the lone double-digit scorer for Hokage Ballers, who took advantage of KPATS North’s miscues and turned it into 22 points.
Despite utilizing only six players, KPATS North put on a tough stand and even led by six, 61-55, early in the payoff period.
Cedric Matugas and Jomark Duenas combined for 49 points and 26 rebounds for KPATS North.
