KPATS North and KPATS South came out unscathed while Fix and Care and Yokohama dominated the opponents in the Recreational Division of the 2016 Next5Hoops Metro Manila Central tournament.
KPATS North drew from a 10-3 run to beat G&C Anmars, 89-82, even as KPATS South overcame Wolfpack, 71-61, in the tournament.
With the game tied at 79 with under 2 minutes to play, KPATS North leaned on a steady freethrow shooting with eight of its final points coming from the stripe.
He may have missed five FTs but Jericho Felix more than made up for it with 28 points on 80% field goal shooting on top of eight rebounds and eight dimes for KPATS North.
Wilson Beringel, Ralf Lacsina and Cedric Matugas then accounted 45 of KPATS North’s total offensive output along with 26 boards.
G&C Anmars kept toe-to-toe with KPATS, even holding the lead through out the third, but failed to strike when it needed most. Rensy Pagulayan had 24 and 13 in a losing effort.
KPATS South, meanwhile, built a safe lead down the stretch with Mark Enriquez carrying the bulk of the scoring load with 21 points, 14 rebounds and two steals.
Despite an errant showing that ended with 24 turnovers, KPATS held the lead for most of the contest with the biggest of the night at 64-50 with under 3 minutes to play.
Lawrence Antig, who scored 3 of the team’s 4 treys, and Rey Romualdo added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for KPATS South.
Wolfpack failed to take advantage of KPATS South’s TOs and only got 14 points off it.
In the other Recreational division games, Yokohama blasted Don Bosco, 92-66, while Fix and Care routed Flight, 88-68.
Yokohama knocked down 8 triples and dominated the paint to take the fight out of Don Bosco, which fielded in only 7 players.
Pong Olayres led the way for Yokohama with 21 points, 13 boards and five assists while Jon Timbre added 11, all but two from the three-point area.
The only bright spot for Don Bosco was turning Yokohoma’s 19 turnovers to 21 points. Pierre Alcuin topscored with 24 that went along 12 boards.
Fix and Care likewise leaned on its sweet shooting to crack the game open in the third quarter against Flight, turning a 40-40 scoreline to a 20-point game in a span of 7 minutes.
Fix and Care kept the lead not lower than 17 points in the payoff period.
Ervie Lacap had the hot hand and finished with 17 points including four of Fix and Care’s seven treys. Adrian Suguilon led all scorers with 21 including two triples.
