Intermediate Division Quarterfinalists Complete

Augustea, 3W Builders, Picole Coffee and Triple 8 each booked a slot in the Top 8 of the Next5Hoops Metro Manila – 2nd South Leg Qualifier Intermediate Division.

DECA, Pound 4 Pound Fitness, Pound 4 Pound Dasma and Aling Lucy’s also moved on to the quarterfinals of the tournament organized by One Unite Sprorts after the games held last March 4 and 5.

Augustea ousted SH Elite, 99-75, in the first match of the weekend.

Despite a poor third quarter showing, Augustea still got the upperhand thanks to a 52-point explosion in the first half where it built a big enough cushion to survive.

After seeing its lead down to seven to start the fourth, Augustea managed to pull away again for the win.

The starting five carried the bulk of the scoring load with Ram Bustillos showing the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

3W Builders, meanwhile, came away with a 92-79 victory over ET Homes.

Asserting its advantage down low, 3W Builders got a whopping 31-10 edge in second chance points and a 46-34 lead in points inside the paint.

Jepoy Vito Cruz and Matthew Riel contributed 17 points apiece to pace the quarters-bound 3W Builders.

Picole Coffee turned back Hoops King, 98-78, to also secure a spot in the next round.

With a strong second half, Picole Coffee neutralized the hotshooting Hoops King, which knocked down 10 triples.

Raymart Amil led Picole Coffee with 19 points and six boards while Asido came off the bench to add 15 points, all but three from 3-point land, and five rebounds.

Triple 8 also leaned on a huge second to dominate Kidzshot, 84-66.

Mike Bernal got the last laugh in his showdown with Shintaro Dela Cruz as his side took home the victory, breaking off from a close game at halftime.

Bernal finished with 24 points built on seven treys to lead Triple 8 while Dela Cruz had 27 points including five triples that went with 11 rebounds in a losing effort.

DECA, meanwhile, got an early lead en route to a 91-80 victory over Tsek Repablik.

DECA scored 20 and more in all quarters and waylaid any attempt of a comeback from Tsek Repablik, which came out firing after the halftime intermission.

Mark Orias remain in charge for DECA as he churned out 28 points while four others chipped in double-digit points.

In the other Top 16 games, Pound for Pound trumped Tile Center, 89-79; P4P Dasma demolished Royals, 106-86; and Aling Lucy’s nipped Dominguez Construction, 102-98.

Pound for Pound pushed the lead to as big as 33 late in the third quarter, leaving Tile Center with not enough time to complete a comeback despite a 28-9 edge in the fourth.

Karlo Sumabat topscored for Pound for Pound with 17 points while Lloyd Sandoval added 15 points off the bench.

P4P Dasma, on the other hand, pulled away with a 34-22 fourth quarter assault after struggling to break the game wide open in the early goings.

Rico Rivera did most of the damage with 34 points and 14 rebounds but RJ Escobal was there to provide back up, adding 22 points and 11 boards.

In contrast, Aling Lucy’s needed extra five minutes to give Dominguez Construction the boot.

Aling Lucy’s led from start to finish in OT, giving no space for Dominguez to steal the show.

Diwa led Aling Lucy’s in a phenomenal performance with 44 points, the highest scoring output all weekend, that went with 14 rebounds.
