Startek Cops Intermediate Division Title

Thanks to a big fourth quarter, Startek copped the 2016 BPO Classic – 2nd Conference Intermediate Division Championship after a 64-59 win over HSBC last February 11.

Startek managed to gain a little breathing room with a 21-15 payoff period output after both sides kept it close in the first three quarters.

A 14-0 blast gave Startek a double-digit advantage in the fourth quarter, and though HSBC had one last fight in them, it wasn’t enough to snatch the victory away.

Nestor Quitan dropped a game-best 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field for Startek while Andrew Santos added 14 points and seven rebounds.

For his all around efforts, Rommel Figueroa was named the Most Valuable Player after he finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

HSBC, meanwhile, leaned on the services of Kim Yoneyama and Lyndon Katigbak, who combined for 21 points and eight rebounds.

It was no surprise that Startek and HSBC settled the crown in a thrilling fashion after their separate heart-thumping wins in the semifinals.

Startek wouldn’t have gotten to the Finals if not for a game winner from Nestor Quitan with 0.4 seconds left to oust The Results Company, 77-76.

Figueroa, Santos and Quitan also contributed solid numbers in that victory, just like in the Finals.

HSBC likewise hung tough to defeat Telus, 68-62, and enter the Final round.
