Artesyn continued the strong start to its title defense even as Cement Mixers, SCMC-ARA, Vertiv and G-Unit racked up victories in the 2017 Next5Hoops Corporate – Recreational Division over the weekend.
Coming off a 25-point win the week before, Artesyn once again showed its might en route to a 67-45 clobbering of SCiP.
Artesyn leaned on its starting five, four of whom finished in double digit points with Glenn Saravillo churning out an all-around game of 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The defending champion was clearly the better team, leading in all statistical departments—19-6 from points off turnovers and 17-4 from second chances—except bench points.
No one from SCiP’s side scored more than nine.
Cement Mixers, meanwhile, bounced back with a 55-49 triumph over SBO – FO Data.
Daniel Muralla carried the cudgels for Cement Mixers with 23 markers that went along with nine rebounds off the bench. The only downside was his eight turnovers.
The game was won inside the paint where Cement Mixers unleashed 40 points compared to SBO – FO Data’s 14.
Alex Eusebio and Rupert Singson had 16 and 12 points, respectively for SBO – FO Data in a losing effort.
SCMC-ARA is also on a roll, turning back Emerson Finance, 89-66.
Chris Frias’s hot hand lifted SCMC-Ara as he finished with 27 markers, all from downtown, while the rest of the scorers contributed at least two points.
While Emerson Finance nearly matched SCMC-Ara’s output from three, it couldn’t get stops downlow and yielded 48 points inside the paint and 20 second chance markers.
G-Unit also flaunted its strength downlow in the 71-52 beatdown of COMCON.
G-Unit was simply powerful inside the paint, getting 44 points from that area while swatting away 10 shots.
Pacing G-Unit were Jonjett Hernandez, who contributed 22 points off the bench, and Peter Jole-Jole, who had an outstanding 14-point, nine-rebound, four-rebound and eight-block statline.
Despite a strong first half, Comcon was doomed by its seven-point third quarter where it let G-Unit take over for good.
Vertiv also discovered the winning column after handily beating National Bookstore, 68-34.
Alex Dizon and Angelo Lucas each had 19 points while Dizon and Roi Mailom coralled 19 and 16 boards, in that order, for Vertiv.
National Bookstore, which also fell to SBO before this weekend’s game, just didn’t have enough firepower to make a threat with no one scoring even more that seven.
