SCMC-ARA, Artesyn on Top of Standings

Cement Mixers, SCiP, SBO FO-Data, Artesyn and SCMC-ARA came out the victors after another round of action-packed hoops in the Next5Hoops Corporate – Recreational Division last March 12.

Cement Mixers had the trickiest time compared to others, withstanding Vertiv, 50-48.

After trailing from the get go, Cement Mixers took the lead for good with under four minutes to play and held on to a lead of no more than 3 until the final buzzer.

Daniel Muralla gave Cement Mixers their first lead of the night, 44-42, with 5:52 to play while Don Cribe gave it to his side for good with 3:57 remaining.

The tandem likewise carried Cement Mixers with 20 and 14 points, respectively, with Muralla added 12 rebounds and seven steals.

Only Alex Dizon finished in double-digits for Vertiv with 17 points and 11 boards.

A strong fourth period also lifted SCiP to a 61-52 triumph over Comcon.

From a tied game at the start of the fourth, SCiP slowly but surely took over the game and got the upperhand for good with 6:50 left to play.

Jeffrey Alinas was the pacesetter for SCiP, notching 19 points including the final go-ahead triple, that went with six rebounds and three steals.

In a losing effort, Felix Basilan carried Comcon with 12 points despite not being in the starting five.

Like SCiP, a payoff period onslaught helped SBO FO-Data secure the 62-57 win over Emerson.

SBO FO-Data persevered with a 25-13 fourth quarter attack and took over with over the driver’s seat for good with only 1:32 left to play.

Back-to-back baskets from Alex Eusebio, which spearheaded SBO FO-Data with 22 points and 13 boards, pushed the lead to 55-51 with .52 ticks in the game clock.

Justin Montalban was not too far behind Eusebio as he had 21 points for his efforts, which sadly were for naught.

Artesyn, meanwhile, carried on with its dominance, this time taking down National Bookstore, 69-47.

Roberto Carlos was at the forefront of the attack, dropping 18 points and seven boards, while Glenn Saravillo added 14 and 18 for Artesyn.

Artesyn clamped down on National Bookstore, which got zero fastbreak points despite getting a better 13 steals.

National Bookstore drew 18 points from Martin Majadas.

In the closing game, SCMC nipped G-Unit, 84-77.

Despite squandering its double-digit advantage in the fourth, SCMC managed to stay ahead in the final four minutes with a 13-5 closing run.

Marvin Alcala had the hottest hand as he unleashed a game-best 29 markers and collared 11 rebounds for SCMC, which only had eight players.

Ryan Tabong also had significant contributions with 20 points and 14 boards.
