G-Unit, Comcon, SCiP, Artesyn Claim Wins

G-Unit cruised to the win but Comcon, SCiP and Artesyn all had to go through the wringer in the Next5Hoops Corporate – Recreational Division matches last March 26 at Asia Pacific College in Makati.

G-Unit ripped the error-prone Vertiv, 82-51, for the biggest win that weekend in the tournament organized by One Unite Sports.

Jonjett Hernandez led the assault with 20 points while Peter Jole-Jole and Christian Dayao chipped in 17 and 14 points, respectively with the former also adding 15 boards.

G-Unit strengthened its lead with strong middle quarters as it turned Vertiv’s 26 turnovers into 17 points and scored 46 in the paint alone.

Angelo Lucas was Vertiv’s best performer with 13 points and seven boards.

Comcon, meanwhile, hung on to a 61-56 win over Cement Mixers.

Though Comcon led majority of the way, Cement Mixers stuck around and constantly tried to trim the lead down.

From 10 at the start of the fourth, Comcon’s lead was slashed down to three with 12 seconds yet but Tony Toh was there to stop the bleeding with freethrows.

Toh sizzled with 20 points including four triples while Felix Basilan, whose two freebies iced the game, added 18.

In the other game, SCiP survived SBO FO-DATA’s last ditch rally for a 55-46 win.

SBO FO-DATA came roaring back from 23 points down to start the fourth but did not have enough time as SCiP claimed the win.

Jeffery Alinas dropped 21 points and six rebounds for SCiP, which won despite not registering second chance and fastbreak points and getting out rebounded, 65-46.

SBO FO-DATA was decent everywhere else except for the shooting, as it only managed 21 points in the first three periods.

In the curtain raiser, Artesyn blanked Emerson in the fourth period for the 64-57 win.

From a tied ball game to start the period, Artesyn held Emerson scoreless the entire fourth then scored seven points to close them out.

Three players wound up in twin digit-points for Artestyn, which also had a strong third quarter, as Emman Carlos finished with 15 points.
