Pound for Pound Fitness cruised to a 78-67 victory over EXL to capture the Next5Hoops Metro Manila 2nd South Leg – Recreational champion last March 26.
P4P Fitness seized the lead from the 7:44 mark of the opening quarter and never looked back, leading by as much as 18 points late in the game.
Adam Madrelejos led the attack for P4P, who slowly but surely pulled away and push the lead to double-digits in the third quarter.
Madrelejos, who was adjudged the Best Player of the Conference, not only dominated in scoring with 26 built on four triples, he also pulled down 12 rebounds.
He gave P4P its biggest lead, 71-53, with a booming trey 4:38 left to play.
Mark Enriquez also came to P4P’s rescue as he notched 13 points and nine rebounds while Ralph Shappit had 12 points and Cris de Lucas 10 points and a team-best 13 boards.
Shappit gave P4P the advantage for good early in the game after EXL tasted its lone lead, 3-2, with a little under eight minutes left in the first quarter.
Jayvee Celadeña’s game-high efforts of 29 points that went with eight boards just weren’t enough for EXL to pose a legit threat for P4P Fitness.
EXL was outscored in second chance points, 24-11, and points in the paint, 34-20.
