Comcon, Emerson, Artesyn and Cement Mixers have secured their places in the next round of the 2017 Next5Hoops Corporate – Recreational Division.
Eliminated in the process were Vertiv, NBS, SBO-FO Data and SCiP after a packed game day last April 2.
Comcon nipped Vertiv, 42-38, in the opener at Asia Pacific College.
A 5-1 run in the final minute closed the deal for Comcon, whose starting five shared the load in scoring.
No player from its side finished in double-digit scoring but Alexis Martinez had eight points, Manjo Lopez seven, Carlo Realuyo six, Rocky Arce five and Kev Navarette four for Comcon.
Only five players scored for Vertiv in the losing effort with Alex Dizon finishing with 12 points.
Meanwhile, Cement Mixers withstood SCiP, 57-61, in overtime.
No side led by more than six points in this nip-and-tuck affair but Cement got the job done with a 7-0 closer in the extra time.
Daniel Muralla notched a game-best 23 points while Martin Tombucon added 14 points and a whopping 24 rebounds for Cement Mixers.
Cement Mixers managed to come away with the win despite turning the ball over 35 times with SCiP only managing 18 points out of it.
Jeffrey Alinas led SCiP with 16 points in the loss.
In contrast, Artesyn dominated SBO FO-DATA, 66-46.
Emman Carlos churned out 21 points to lead Artesyn’s all-out attack while Glenn Saravillo and Domingo Ete had 17 and 12 points, respectively.
Artesyn managed to pull away with a strong first half, where it outscored SBO FO-Data, 37-17.
SBO FO-DATA, led by Alex Eusebio’s 10 points, had a brief comeback in the the final two frames, but 12 was the closest it could get.
Emerson, on the other hand, demolished NBS, 82-44.
With NBS just scoring 22 points in the first three quarters alone, there was no excuse for Emerson not to break the game wide open.
By the fourth quarter, Emerson was leading by as much as 52 points, 74-22.
Four players dropped double-digit points while the rest contributed at least three points in the win for Emerson.
NBS’s best moment was in the fourth quarter where it outscored Emerson 22-15, but that hardly made a difference.
Mark Yanez and Martin Madajas carried the fight for NBS with 18 and 13 points, respectively.
