Converga, KMC, QBE Pick Up Close Wins in Recreational Division

All three games in Pool 1 of the 2017 BPO Classics Basketball Tournament Recreational Division came down the wire, with Converga, KMC Solutions, and QBE notching the victories in Week 3 action.

Converga came back from a late deficit to stun AMMEX, 48-46 in a low-scoring affair. Allen Arcasitas hit the go-ahead basket with only 34 seconds remaining to give Converga the lead.

Arcasitas had 11 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and shot 5-of-6 from the field. Christopher Conde added 13 points.

Converga scored only nine points in each of the first and second quarters, but woke up in the final period where they poured 18 points. AMMEX was still leading 46-42 with over two minutes remaining, but back to back baskets by Vito Gaucena and Jaime Dela Cruz tied the count.

That set up Arcasitas’ basket, even as AMMEX missed their last four field goal attempts.

Mark Odoemene’s 12 points paced AMMEX, but he shot an atrocious 1-of-15 from the floor, only making up for it from the charity stripe where he shot 10-of-11.

In the second game, a strong first half by KMC Solutions proved to be the cushion it needed to fend off Wells Fargo, 60-55.

KMC Solutions used a strong second quarter to create the initial separation, outscoring their foes 23-17 for a 36-27 halftime lead.

Jadlae Fernandez (16 points) and Arnaldo Zotomayor (14 points) joined hands for KMC Solutions in the second quarter fight, before the advantage grew to as high as 12 in the third quarter. Daniel Fajardo added a game-high 15 rebounds.

Noel Alajas’ 11 markers and Joseph Arcilla’s double-double of 10 points and 10 boards led Wells Fargo in the loss.

In the final affair, QBE edged Vocus Sales, 69-63 behind 18 points, four rebounds, and six steals from Joel Godoy.

From a slim 31-28 edge during intermission, QBE came out firing in the third quarter to pull away and keep Vocus Sales at bay as the latter played catch-up for the rest of the game.

Noel Sabordo added 16 markers while Roland Macahia came close to a double-double as he finished with nine points and 12 boards.

QBE’s victory spoiled Lorenz Palmos’ 19-point effort for Vocus Sales.
