SCMC-ARA remained undefeated in the 2017 Next5Hoops Corporate after another convincing win while BTV and Safeway recorded close victories over their foes in this week’s action.
SCMC-ARA trounced Union Bank, 74-53. It wasn’t until the middle quarters before the winning side pulled away, as they outscored Union Bank 44-23 in the second and third quarters to create separation.
Andrew Felix was once again the top performer for SCMC-ARA, tallying 17 points on 60 percent shooting. Ricardo Sison and Ryan Tabong were the other double-digit scorers with 16 and 11 markers, respectively.
Patrick Felizardo was a one-man show for UnionBank, finishing with 29 points, 16 rebounds, and five steals in the loss.
BTV used a 23-15 third quarter to take control and edge CityState Savings Bank, 82-77. BTV was down two points entering the second half, but they went on a run to turn things around.
Mario Gayagaya was splendid in the win, scoring 28 points on 9-of-14 field goal shooting and 9-of-11 free throw shooting while also finishing with 16 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. He edged Robinson Abalos in the individual duel as Abalos put up 30 points, 13 boards, and five assists.
Finally, Safeway stunned Central Functions ACC after going on a 6-0 run under the final minute. Central Functions ACC was still ahead 59-56 in a game that was close from start to finish, before Raymond De Jesus sank a basket to pull Safeway within one.
John Basa then hit back to back to push safeway ahead by three, the second coming with just six seconds remaining. Ralston Shappit failed to knock down a three at the buzzer as his team fell.
JC David led the victors with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists. Basa added 14 points. Safeway spoiled a near triple-double from Shappit as well as he had 24 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
