Personiv and QBE grabbed the slots in the finals of the 2017 BPO Classics Recreational Division after wins over Vocus Sales and Stellar BPO, respectively, over the weekend.
Personiv and QBE face each other in the knockout finale for the championship of the tournament.
It was no easy victory for Personiv, which survived Vocus Sales, 59-58, last September 3.
In a nip-and-tuck fourth periods, Personiv got the last laugh as Sean Surbona nailed the game-tying lay-up with 0.4 ticks left before Ellis Opano split his freebies to give them the final lead.
Vocus Sales had the chance to escape with the win but Angelo Angeles’ hail mary with two seconds left did not connect.
Opano and Surbano’s performance capped a game-long effort to carry Personiv as they finished with 16 and 11 points, respectively and combined for 11 rebounds.
Angeles had 11 points in Vocus Sales’ heartbreaking loss.
Meanwhile, QBE turned back Stellar BPO, 70-63, last September 2 to claim the first spot in the final round.
Despite struggling to shrug off Stellar BPO for good, QBE managed to get a big enough lead to sail to the victory.
Joel Godoy unleashed 18 points but had ample help as Aston Estrella and Noel Sabordo teamed up for 21 points for QBE.
Miguel Castellano’s game-best effort of 20 points went down the drain as Stellar BPO just couldn’t find the push to take over the game.
The Recreational Division finals will be on Sunday, September 10 at the Phenom Sports Center in Makati.
