Aling Lucy’s Panciteria and Happy Cool both scored blowout wins over their opponents as the 2017 Next5Hoops Metro Manila South Leg Qualifier Intermediate Playoffs has been cut down to just six competing teams.
Kaizer Galvez had 33 points including five triples as Happy Cool walloped South Kings, 102-63.
Happy Cool started hot, going on a 23-6 first period. The South Kings were never able to recover after that, and Happy Cool made sure to prevent trouble after out-scoring them further, 37-19, in the payoff quarter.
Aling Lucy’s drubbed Excelinks Travel & Tours, 99-76. After yielding a two-point deficit after the first quarter, Aling Lucy’s went on a 29-13 second quarter to turn things around. After that, another dominant 33-22 third quarter enabled them to cruise.
Mark Olano topscored with 26 points while Romel Almerol and Jake Diwa both had 22 markers. Almerol hauled down 11 rebounds as well.
Mark Alforja was the only bright spot for Excelinks with his 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
Two more squads registered victories; Royals stunned Tsek Republic, 93-90, while Chargers ousted Picole Coffee, 101-93.
After a big third quarter, Tsek Republic held a seven-point lead, but Royals rallied back to shock them.
A barrage of triples from Edu Reyes enabled Royals to get back, tying the game at 76 apiece before getting the upperhand as Junard Caprida got involved.
Reyes had 24 points in the win. Junard Caprida added 19 markers and 10 boards. It was a 27-17 fourth quarter for Royals in the comeback win.
Meanwhile, the Chargers flipped the switch in the fourth quarter, exploding for 35 points to down Picole Coffee. Nino Romano had 29 points and nine assists for the Chargers.
