Squad Golds, Avant, Gangster rack up big wins

Squad Golds, Let-It-Fly Avant, Gangster and Arcegee Tunesquad flexed their muscles en route to overwhelming victories in the Recreational Plus division of Next5Hoops Metro Manila North Leg.

Three teams won by more than 30 whopping points over the weekend at Phenom Sports Center in Makati with Squad Golds beating SMDC by a margin of 63, 102-39.

Kirst Viray spearheaded the onslaught for Squad Golds with 26 points in just 22 minutes of play off the bench. He also had 12 rebounds.

While Squad Golds led in all departments, its most glaring advantage were the 26-6 difference in assists and 44-3 in points off turnovers.

Micky Bernabe added 19 points and five assists for Squad Gold while Art Teruel had 17 markers and six dimes.

SMDC was led by Jerome Canilao, who finished with 10 points and three boards.

Meanwhile, a hot-shooting Let-It-Fly Avant clobbered FEU-NRMF, 88-55.

Let-It-Fly Avant gained separation early and put the game beyond the reach of FEU-NRMF in the third quarter, where it knocked down five of its nine triples.

Four players wound up with double-digit points for Let-it-Fly Avant with Domingo leading the way with 20 points including six triples on top of five rebounds.

You and Ponce chipped in 12 points apiece while Claudio registered 10 markers for Let-It-Fly Avant.

FEU-NRMF banked on Lantaca and Sagum, who had 17 and 12 points, respectively in the losing effort.

Gangster likewise demolished Hornies, 126-85.

With Gangster scoring 71 points in the first half alone, there was hardly anything Hornies could do to catch up with the lead staying at 30 and more for the better part of the game.

Even with only six players suiting up, Gangster had all the firepower it needed with Cachapero exploding for 64 points built on 14 triples in a breathtaking performance.

Cachapero added 18 points and Avila 17 to help Gangster’s cause.

In the only relatively close finish of the weekend, Arcegee Tunesquad nipped Team Pilipinas, 104-92.

Arcegee Tunesquad used a strong fourth quarter assault to turn a tied game at the start of the fourth quarter into a double-digit victory.

While Arcegee Tunesquad had the lead for the majority of the game, Team Pilipinas was always ready to make a run and pull closer.

A 9-0 run from Team Pilipinas bridging the third and fourth quarters knotted the count at 72 before Arcegee Tunesquad answered with a 7-0 roll of its own.

Offense was aplenty for Arcegee Tunesquad as all but one of the 14 players contributed in scoring Acharon and Ortega topscoring with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
