Goto Pilipinas and So Kian both pulled off nail-biters in elimination round Week 6 of the 2017 Next5Hoops Metro Manila North Leg Qualifiers Intermediate Division last October 14.
Goto Pilipinas relied on the clutch shots of Marlon Serrano in the end game as they held off CW Home Depot, 75-74.
Down 72-69 in the final quarter with just over three minutes remaining, Serrano and Arnel Ibarrientos knocked down baskets to give Goto Pilipinas a 73-72 lead.
Bimbo Dimagiba answered with two free throws to bring the advantage back to CW Home Depot, but Serrano would have the last laugh as he made two foul shots under pressure with just 31 seconds left.
Ryan Suller would miss in the final few moments of the match as Goto Pilipinas held on for the win.
Leklek Torre topscored with 17 points on 55 percent shooting while Ibarrientos added 12 markers. Serrano finished with eight points.
Harold Lomtong had 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals for CW Home Depot.
Meanwhile, So Kian did just enough to oust a nine-man Main Models, 83-79, in the other elimination round game of the weekend.
So Kian broke a 21-all deadlock after one quarter as they went on a 26-17 second period; but the Main Models were quick to get back in the game.
Trailing 78-74, Raven Molina made a long range shot while Mark Joseph Uduba made another basket to give Main Models a 79-78 lead.
However, it was short-lived as Mon Alejo responded with a big three of his own, followed by Carlos Morales who made it a two-possession game, 83-79.
Manuel Jimenez led So Kian with 17 points. Alejo came off the bench with 14 markers, while Morales also finished with 14 points.
Jeff Olalia waxed hot for 32 points and 12 rebounds for the Main Models, although sadly it had to come at the expense of a loss.
