Powerhouse squads Goto Pilipinas and Arceegee Tune Squad both finished off their foes decisively in Week 7 action of the 2017 Next5Hoops Metro Manila North Leg Qualifier Intermediate Division last October 21 to 22.
Goto Pilipinas was the weekend’s biggest winner after blowing out So Kian, 100-78.
The takeout restaurant company dropped 38 second quarter points, outscoring So Kian by 23 in that period to break the game wide open.
Six different players scored in double-digits for Goto Pilipinas in a balanced display. Onin Villena had 15 points to lead four starters in twin digits. Arnel Ibarrientos added 14 markers.
Ibarrientos and Art Andres (12 points, five rebounds, six assists) starred in a 16-0 second quarter run which broke a 24-all deadlock and gave the advantage to Goto Pilipinas for good.
Adrian Querubin led So Kian with 20 points, three assists, and two steals.
Arceegee Tune Squad bested Pitalicious, 109-97 behind the savvy playmaking of Samboy Ortega, who finished with a whopping 16 assists to go along with 17 points and eight boards, just barely missing a triple-double.
Lester Caranglan and Jomar Aquino each added 14 markers as the Tune Squad used a 26-16 first period to set the tone for the rest of the match.
Like Goto Pilipinas, the Tune Squad had plenty of weapons as five players scored 10 or more points.
John Catacutan paced Pitalicious with 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting and 12 rebounds coming off the bench. Donnie Reyes added 20 markers.
Lastly, FEU-NRMF edged out CW Home Depot, 81-75 in a back-and-forth duel.
Aries Gumabay guided the Medical Center in the fourth quarter where FEU-NRMF outscored CW Home Depot, 24-14 to pull off the win.
Gumabay had 21 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists, while shooting an efficient 8-of-12 from the field. Reserve Ninoy Sagum added 18 markers off the bench.
Harold Lomtong topscored for the losing side with 20 points.
