ARMCO, Wells Fargo, and Concentrix opened their respective campaigns in 2018 BPO Classics Competitive Division with a bang after convincing wins over the weekend at the Phenom Sports Center.
All three teams picked up wins in their first assignments in the tournament organized by One Unite Sports & Events, Inc. to join Optum Global Solutions and Accenture in the win column.
Concentrix sent Shell Business Operations reeling with a 79-58 triumph in their Sunday matchup.
It started with a blazing 22-8 first-quarter run and Concentrix never looked back, leading by as much as 30 with over five minutes left to play.
All but four of the 15 players fielded in the game scored for Concentrix with also all but one contributing at least two rebounds leading to the 67-37 discrepancy in boards.
Torregaza led the way with 19 points and seven rebounds while Nuez added 11 points and five boards.
Meanwhile, ARMCO defeated Accenture, 73-59, last Saturday.
Using a strong first half to create distance, ARMCO was able to go on cruise control from then on with Accenture never coming within less than 16 points until the final score.
The duo of Cruz and Alonday sparked ARMCO, which beat Accenture significantly in fastbreak (12-0) and second chance (15-7) points, with 31 points combined.
Manson and Nichiguchi had 12 and 10 points, respectively in a losing effort for SBO.
In the other match, Wells Fargo turned back SYKES Asia, 70-63.
After a tied first half at 35, Wells Fargo started to gain a little bit of separation against the pesky SYKES side with a 7-0 run before the end of the third.
SYKES Asia stayed within step until midway the payoff period before Wells Fargo slowly built a double-digit lead which it held onto until the final buzzer.
Collective effort carried Wells Fargo in their opening triumph, with three players in double-digit scoring led by Ramon Gatan with 12 points and five boards.
Michael Mostrales’ monster effort of 26 points and six rebounds for SYKES Asia went down the drain with the loss.
Both SBO and SYKES Asia slid to 0-2 early in the tournament while Accenture dropped to 1-1.
